FAQs

  • Certain medications can increase skin sensitivity to waxing and sugaring. If you're using Retin-A, acne treatments, or acid peels, stop taking them 14 days before your appointment (this includes over-the-counter drugs). If you take Accutane, cease its use six months in advance. Those with diabetes should consult their doctor, as their skin heals slowly and has a higher risk of side effects. Always check with your doctor before changing any medication.

  • Wax is made from beeswax and pulls hair against its growth. Sugar is a mix of sugar, water, and lime, and removes hair in the direction it grows. Wax is usually hotter than sugar, which starts at room temperature and warms when it touches the skin. Both methods are effective, and different people may prefer one over the other. If you have thick hair, you might start with hard wax before using sugar. Book an appointment to discuss what’s best for you with your esthetician.

  • Stop shaving, using Nair, or trimming two weeks before your appointment. Hair should be a quarter inch long (about the size of a grain of rice). This applies even if your hair grows quickly.

  • There will be some discomfort related to any hair removal that pulls the hair out of its follicles. Even though is not necessary, if concerned a painkiller 60 minutes prior your appointment should help minimize pain and reduce mild swelling. Avoid alcohol and caffeine before your treatment and plan accordingly, the skin stays red and sensitive for 24 hours.

  • Hair grows differently for everyone. Most clients get waxed every four weeks. The more you wax, the slower and finer your hair will grow. Remember: avoid shaving between appointments, exfoliate your skin every three days, use the products your esthetician recommends, and let your hair grow.

  • Avoid tanning, exercising, or using lotion for 24 hours after your service. We also suggest exfoliating once a week between appointments.

  • Avoid hot baths, hot showers, or saunas for 24-48 hours. No tanning in any form. Refrain from sports or gym workouts. Wear clean, loose-fitting clothes. Do not use deodorants, body sprays, lotions, or oils on waxed areas.
